This specially curated programme by award-winning filmmaker Ben Rivers was presented by CINECITY and Film Hub South East in association with the 2014 Folkestone Triennial, as part of the BFI’s nationwide season of science fiction films, Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder. Our screenings focused on the works of local writer H.G. Wells, with adaptations of his literary classics The War of the Worlds and The Shape of Things to Come.
Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder is a three-month celebration of film and television’s original blockbuster genre, including over 1,000 screenings of classic films and television programmes at over 200 locations across the UK, from outdoor events at iconic British sites to screenings in multiplexes, local cinemas and community venues, in one of the largest and most ambitious sci-fi seasons ever created.
